വ്യവഹാരമാല - മഹാകവി ഉള്ളൂരിന്റെ കേരള സാഹിത്യ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രസക്ത ഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ Poet Ulloor writes about Vyavahaaramala in Kerala Sahitya Charithram - Scanned copies of the relevant pages

I request all the writers and practitioners to correct. You may please keep a copy of these images for your future reference. Because many of the recent editions repeat the same mistake.

So, we have now come to the conclusion that translation of 'Vyavaharamala' is not the earliest known reference about Mohiniyattam. Its translation belongs to AD 1809 (19th Century). The works Goshayathra (by Kalakkath Kunchan Nambiar (1705–1770) and Balarama Bharatham (By Dharma Raja Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma (‘ധര്‍മ്മ രാജ‘ കാര്‍ത്തിക തിരുനാള്‍ രാ‍മവര്‍മ്മ, 1724–1798) that carry references about Mohiniyattam; belong to the 18th century. So I request all those who are interested in the art form of Mohiniyattam, its history, origin and evolution may consider these books for detailed research....

  3. Hi... This is sucilan.. I recently came through an article abt mohiniattam... It says " mohiniattam is founded by vadivelu one of the four quartets of tanjavur in early 19th century... He was asked by the king thirunal to create a dance as beautiful as bharatnatyam.... Later vadivelu and thirunal discussed and finally formulated by vadivelu and he kept the name of the dance also in Tamil..." And there's historical evidence about mohiniattam before 19th century....
